Modern Day Neighbour

Categories

Built in the centre of traditional architecture and revived turn-of-the-century homes you can imagine how this new build may stick out just a bit.

Old Rothesay met its modern day neighbour the first day we broke ground, when many of the neighbours expressed interested in the design + layout (some positive, some-not-so-positive feedback). It was apparent from the beginning, we’d have keen interest as the project progressed.

This in-fill lot was a real treasure trove. Offering a view of the Kennebecasis River, the street’s lane-like vibe was in large part due to the quaintness it exuded combined with a liveliness from the density of neighbours’ homes; and being able to preserve many of the mature hardwoods peppered throughout – were all bonuses when scouting this lot.

This design / build took 6 months from start to finish, all of which were completed in-house with our small-and-mighty team.

Actually, we grabbed a few of them and asked what their favourite parts of the build were:

Jeff: the Maibec pre-finished wood siding, this build was one of the first homes in Atlantic Canada to use this new profile.

Josh: the fixed window that lines the staircase (it was a full-on team effort topped off with a pump jack).

Jesse: how the ground level patio extends the clean-lines of the home.

(we only hire people with names that start with J).

Other notables on this home:

  • energy efficient
  • roof-top patio
  • ground-level patio
  • liveable layout with blank spaces (that’s right. space to move. it’s a good thing)
  • main floor office
  • open flex space
  • rich walnut details throughout
  • oil-finished hardwood floors, gives it that nice matte look
  • penny tile that are a treat on the feet
  • landscaped-to-the-max by Four Seasons
  • extended entryway offers a nice buffer zone to the living areas

In the end, our team’s highlight was catching-up with the community on this build and witnessing their support grow each day; all-in-all we were truly appreciative for.
