Neutrally Attractive Quispamsis New Build + Renovation

When you’re hired by clients for the first time, you’re appreciative. When you’re hired by the same clients for a second time, you’re totally honoured. This was the feeling here at this new build we completed in 2013, where the clients had recently expanded their family and therefore wanted to maximize their square footage by finishing-off the basement. Luckily when we constructed this home, we had it fully prepared to be finished one day, so we were able to hit the ground running with this.

Returning to a former project, is like returning to your hometown after being away. There’s a nostalgia attached to it. It’s always insightful seeing how clients make a space theirs, how they utilize the different areas, and how their home influences their lifestyle. On top of this, witnessing the pride of homeownership is a treat, which was evident here in how well they’ve kept this home. It still looks like the day we handed over the keys, but better!

We decided to showcase the whole home reveal in addition to the more recent portion, the basement finishing. Kind of like a two-for-one deal.

So, what is this house all about, you may ask? Here is a rundown of what you’re about to see.

Built in Quispamsis, this highly functional bungalow has CanExcel siding (a prefinished lap siding), simple pillars set on a tiered front stairway with brushed industrial-inspired exterior lighting. The home’s location is surrounded by a wooded area and is perched higher off the road, therefore offering complete privacy.

This home is what you would call a sleeper. From the outside, it looks more condensed than it actually is. Step inside and there are 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, home gym area and a home office, not 1 but 2 ample sized living areas – all boasting with clean lined finishes to give this neutrally attractive Quispamsis new build + renovation its solid-as-the-day-you-created-it feel.

The basement finishing is set around a large living area complete with a built-in TV and book shelf unit that has a simple live edge mantle, propane fireplace and storage for toys. The home office is open to the living area; however is tucked around a corner complete with a built-in custom desk and cabinetry – ideal for working from home with privacy. We finished-off the laundry room area with a countertop, shelving and a sink – the tile floors were already laid when the home was built. The newly created bathroom already had the plumbing roughed-in, so we finished it off with herringbone floors, floating vanity, spacious tiled shower, toilet and lighting. Also added to the  basement, was a guest bedroom and home gym area topped-off with a kicky kitchenette for those early morning workouts or late night movie watching. The basement now works as a great family time area and/or a complete guest resort, where they would never have to surface upstairs, if you didn’t want them to!

Even though this home is still considered newer, it was important the basement didn’t appear as though it was completed afterwards. The two floors had to be cohesive, despite serving different purposes. This dwelling is a nice example of blending new home construction with home renovation without looking like it happened in that order.

Thank-you to our clients for entrusting us not once, but twice.
