Take a peek into this recently renovated 1880 brownstone that brings classic charm and a whole lot of style to Uptown Saint John. Be in awe of the granite entry pillars, rich brick exterior and elegant woodwork that welcomes you to this hearty home.
Over the span of four months, the Vantage Build team planned and executed the interior reconfiguration of this residence. Constructing a layout that presented as open, light-filled and conducive to today’s living, hosting and enjoying. It was important to the homeowners and Vantage Build team that the renovation be blended with the rest of the space. Because of this, much of the original woodwork and ornate details including birds eye maple and walnut wainscoting were preserved to hold its heritage value. Knowing the magnetic energy our City’s core has to offer, Uptown Saint John was an idyllic location for these homeowners to make a mark and showcase their keen eye for detail in nothing other than a beautiful heritage brownstone.
The team removed the bathroom, original kitchen and what was a half-hearted entryway mudroom in order to accommodate the brand new kitchen, which flows seamlessly into the dining room and newly added back entryway with basket weave floor tile. The kitchen, detailed in Canadian made Kitchen Craft cabinetry from Select Kitchens, Barroca soapstone countertops, custom walnut island and dimpled copper farmhouse sink offers a stylish touch of luxury to this enticing cookery. These warmer kitchen elements were contrasted by the vertically stacked subway tiled kitchen backsplash, adding a minimal modern feel the Uptowner lifestyle adores. Exposed brick paired with industrial lights and clean whites was the optimal way to go with this space. Complete with new red oak hardwood, this tastefully decorated kitchen is now an all-embracing entertainment spot for family and friends to enjoy after an evening of Uptown Saint John festivities.
Where a good portion of the main level was opened-up, beautiful black aluminum hybrid windows were added to accommodate the revised floor plan; however installing these windows was no small feat. The old brick surrounding the windows had to be removed and replaced with bricks that were new but occupied a tint of age in order to be properly integrated.
The floors were refinished in the hallway, living room and library, and a much needed blush pink powder room was added onto the main floor by taking a small portion of space from the den area. Pedestal sink, white penny tile and soaring ceilings take this naturally narrow space and allow it to feel mighty. Exposing brick, adding herringbone tile around the dining room fireplace and basket weave floor tile in both entryways adds warmth and sophistication to this contrasted space. New & warmly styled light fixtures, efficient back entryway and the addition of a bar serving area in the kitchen complete the renovation and take this brownstone from dark to flashing, all while being honourable to its heritage and roots. Not sacrificing beauty for functionality, the renovations at this Germain Street residence are nothing short of impressive.
